Who do you think are the most powerful people in the Series?

Here’s my list

1. Albus Dumbledore . Do I need to say anymore?




2. Voldemort. Woefully ignorant to some areas of magic, but no one could match him in a duel except Dumbledore.

3. Grindelwald. He was the second most powerful wizard of all time apparently. Only Dumbledore had to skill to beat him.




4. Snape. A class above everyone in potion making and has shown the capability of creating new spells. Also an extremely accomplished Occlumens.

5. Belatrix. Very skilled duellist as shown in book 7 when taking on 3 people at once.

We don’t know much about James Potter, but was it sounds as if he was better than Snape is most classes.

Also, Moody had seen better days at the time the books were set. How good was he back in the day? The best auror of all time?

Who else deserves a mention?

lol no. Its pretty obvious that Snape was an excellent student. James was just more athletic.

James Potter was an excellent student too. You have to be good to be an Animagus at just 15, assuming the form of a stag.

I think James was a skilled duellist, escaping Voldemort three times. When they met for the fourth time, he was eventually killed; though he lacked a wand on this occasion.

What make you so sure that Snape was an excellent student? He didn't like DADA. He was more interested in just the dark arts. Very talented potion maker though as Slughorn said. I bet James was better than him in transfiguration.

Also James helped write the Marauders map.

Granted that is impressive (being animagus that young) but he always had help. (kinda like Harry.)
Snape did stuff on his own. He was alot like Hermione only without real friends. He figured out all that potion stuff all by his one-sie. James always had someone else around to help him learn stuff. Poor James got found out in the end. Remember, Voldy only killed Snape to gain possession of the Elder Wand. He never knew about Snapes real motives. Being able to block out the worlds greatest Legilimens is pretty impressive on its own.

I've put Harry above Voldemort because ultimately he has power over him, due to certain aspects of Voldemort's character, but Harry doesn't really have power over anyone else! If we're getting deep into the books, it should really only be Voldemort since power is depicted as evil and Dumbledore (eventually) puts aside any notions of power or hierarchy and treats everyone as equal. But having said that, it would be impossible to have a totally equal society while there are leaders so I'll stick with the list!
