Is it just me or was he a little mysterious in the book?

I may have missed something, but I found that I couldn't really imagine his appearance or mannerisms. J.K. Rowling hadn't really described his appearance.

They only sense of character there was in the book him was how he was angry, loyal to Voldermort and a little messed up. Apart from that, his character was lost as he took the Veritserum and spilled the beans without releasing his character.

Is it just me or did J.K. Rowling not really describe him much, it was hard to imagine him as someone else as he clearly was a very different person in the film, but is it just me that thinks that???

Barty Crouch Jr. is described in the court scene when they bring in the four Deatheaters who tortured Neville's parents.

really not even close to the twitchy guy in the movie.

This is something thats been bugging me. I saw the film before i read the book (oi! hold the lynching please.), and i couldnt help notice the vast difference in character. The book version of Barty Crouch Jr was more reserved and a bit more calculating and quite clever whereas the film version gave us the impression of a madman. Why the drastic change?

the film makers made a lot of changes to the movie with regard to Barty Jr.

1) opening scene he is free with voldemort, the book he was with his father and winky at the Quiddich World cup, under an invisibilty cloak in the empty seat.

2) Harry see's him cast the Dark Mark, whereas winky was blamed for casting the dark mark with harry's wand, Barty Jr. was still under the invisibility cloak as I recall in the book.

the actor in the movie really did not strike me as Barty Jr., his demeanor was that of a mad man, though he was a deatheater and murders his father later on so maybe a stressing the mad man side in the film, helped to create that character. The tongue twitch was not in the book as I recall. Barty Jrs demonstration of the curses, I really got that he was more serious in the book when he did it, just as i would expect moody to be when teaching.

i think that because of the change in plot from the film to the book they had to change Barty Jr:

Mostly because in the book he was corrupted by the Imperius curse, and was suffering from captivity, where in the film he was just a weirdo that was obsessed with Voldemort...but David Tenant was an awesome character. Sure it was different to the book but I still though he played him well. I guess it's a little interesting to have something different sometimes. Just look at the positives.

I just remembered the scared pale freckle faced kid, JKR did not say who it was until half way down on the next page, so its pretty hard to associate the description with the character.

The actor (Dr. Who!) looks nothing like the description in the book, but I always picture him now because that actor is now fixed in my head as that character. Same goes for Dudley, he's supposed to be blonde and the same size horizontally as vertically, although I doubt they were able to find an actor that big :P
