Have you noticed that expelliarmus spell differs from movie to book? in the prizoner of azkaban it was a disarming spell then harry used it and it hit snape in the chest and sent him flying backwards? some of the spells jk rowling talked about werent set in stone

yeah its true and in the order of phoenix harry use the Expelliarmus to disarm malfoy and in the goblet of fire harry use it and a red light out from the wand

The only reason the red light came out was because of the connection of the wands. In the book it is always a disarming spell. Harry was trying to disarm voldemort, but because of the connection of the wands the red light came out. Rowling never falters that it is a disarming spell.

doesn't Gilderoy Lockhart get hit in The Chamber of Secrets during the Snape and Gilderoy duel??? When Snape goes EXPELLIARMUS and Lockhart doesn't block it and goes flying...or was that bit just in the film, i cant remember

yes, that happens. Again, DISARMING. The more powerful the wizard, the more powerful the spell. It sends people flying when a powerful disarming spell is used. Just like when hermione disarms Ron in OOTP.

I thought it was just a movie error. It's supposed to be a disarming spell so I don't know what's with this people flying backwards business. I think they've confused expelliamus with depulso.

The strength of a spell usually matches the power ofthe with or wizard casting it. Harry though young has proven that he has at times more than a lot of adults, he could produce a patronus at 14 and that is considered an adult spell. As to eepelliarmus, we have to remember that this is Harry's favoured spell.
